Full-Time Police Chief
Due to a retirement, the Village of Capac., (pop. 1858) is seeking a highly visible, full-time police chief to lead a department of 3 full-time officers. The Village of Capac is located in western St. Clair County, approximately 30 miles West of Port Huron and 50 miles North of Detroit. The department has an operating budget of $502,000.
Under the direct supervision of the Village Manager, the Chief will be responsible for the daily operation of the department, annual budget preparation, and law enforcement activities. This position is an administrative/patrol position and requires experience with and knowledge of municipal and community policing. The ideal candidate will have experience with issues facing a rural community, strong leadership, and supervisory skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and prosecutorial experience, and will enjoy being part of an exceptional local government team striving to provide exemplary service to the citizens of the community.
A minimum of five years (5) experience in law enforcement with three years (3) in a progressively responsible supervisory/administrative capacity is required.
A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice is preferred.
The selected candidate shall be licensed as a full-time MI police officer through Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and must possess or have the ability to obtain a MI driver’s license.
The Village offers a competitive benefits package, including a 10% MERS 457 employer contribution with a salary range of $50,000.00 - $60,000.00, depending on qualifications and experience. A detailed job description is available upon request.
